CoCubes: Campus Recruitment Moves Online
CoCubes is an Indian startup founded by two fresh IIT Bombay graduates. CoCubes is attempting to address the large labor market of fresh college graduates. Every year nearly 12 lakh students graduate from Indian undergraduate universities. Most students graduate and then hunt for jobs. The lucky few have formal recruitment events at their college campuses.
CoCubes is building an online platform enabling colleges and companies to host the recruitment process online. CoCubes partners with colleges and lets their students post their resumes online. Recruiting companies pay to view and search resumes. The model makes it possible for colleges even without a proper placement office to reach out to recruiters. Right now they are just a few months old and are aggressively signing deals with engineering schools. In the future they’ll also target the B-schools.
Although the market is huge for such a company, I wonder if such a model will work successfully. First, students do not really apply for job profiles, instead companies search for students. That means the majority of the jobs will be entry level positions only. Secondly an off-line presence to make the rest of the recruitment smoother is also required. Most entry level jobs require students to take a test and then do an interview.
